Friends of Hidden Valley
La Jolla, California
Welcome
Friends of Hidden Valley is a grassroots group that is committed to preserving the peaceful, uncongested nature of La Jolla's residential neighborhoods.

The group formed in response to the threat of a large institutional complex proposed for the busy intersection of Hidden Valley Road and Ardath Road and out of concern for other City Council decision affecting La Jolla.

The applicant, Chabad La Jolla, wants to demolish the single-family home currently on the property and construct a multi-purpose building with underground parking. (See Proposed Construction.)

Everyone who lives or works in La Jolla would be negatively impacted by the Chabad project - not just residents of Hidden Valley. The complex would be a stone's throw from La Jolla Parkway - one of the busiest intersections in San Diego County - and would create a hazardous traffic situation and a parking nightmare.

Friends of Hidden Valley believe there is a more appropriate location for the Chabad Center, and we want to ensure that this project does not set a dangerous precedent for La Jolla's residential neighborhoods.

Thank you for your interest.
We welcome your comments and questions. Our email is

We would also welcome your financial support to help cover the cost of attorney fees and other expenses. Checks made out to "Friends of Hidden Valley" can be sent to P. O. Box 1721, La Jolla, CA 92038.

Thank you, Supporters!

On November 6, the La Jolla Community Planning Association voted unanimously to deny the proposed Chabad project
. The meeting was attended by over 80 Friends of Hidden Valley supporters who - in a heartwarming display of grassroots Democracy - shared their concerns about traffic safety and parking.

A Dramatic Warning:

On October 14, the City Council overruled widespread community opposition and voted to permit a mixed-use three-story project in Bird Rock, where the PDO allows only two-story buildings. The City Council's utter disregard for local residents is a wake-up call for all La Jollans

Good News:

On Sept. 23, the La Jolla Shores Planned District Ordinance Permit Review Committee
voted against the Chabad proposal 5 - 0.  On Sept. 25, the Traffic & Transportation Committee also voted against the project.  In February 2007, the La Jolla Shores Association voted 7-1-0 to deny the project.
